The Southern Utah University women’s volleyball team is set to go on the road to play against University of Texas at Arlington on Thursday, Oct. 3rd at 5 p.m., followed by a home game against in-state rival Utah Tech University on Saturday, Oct. 5th at 1 p.m. Both games can be streamed on ESPN+.
Southern Utah
The Thunderbirds enter this week with a record of 6-7 and 2-0 in conference play, placing them No. 3 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Andrea Spasojevic continues to be a proven asset for Southern Utah. She leads the team in kills and service aces with 134 and 11. Spasojevic is also second in digs with 102, and second in blocks with 23. Another notable offensive player for SUU is setter Teniyah Leuluai, who places third in the WAC for assists per set with 8.2.
Arianna Rossi is a consistent defensive player with a team-leading 151 digs this season, placing her No. 6 in the conference. On the front line, Carissa Richie is No. 6 in the WAC and first on the team with 53 blocks.
UT Arlington
The Mavericks hold a strong 12-2 record and 2-0 in the conference.
Brianna Ford and Paige Reagor are a dangerous duo on offense and defense. Ford leads the WAC in kills with 220, first with 18 service aces, and is second on the team in blocks with 41. She is also second in digs with 123, only trailing Samantha Glenn who has 183. Reagor is second in kills with 125 and first in blocks with 59. Setter Mollie Blank has also had an incredible year with a conference-leading 510 assists.
Utah Tech
The Bison are 8-4 with a 2-0 conference record, placing them second in the WAC.
Utah Tech has a well rounded offense with three players with over 100 kills. Kennedi Knudson leads with 172, Hannah Howard has 101 and Tessa Treanor with 100. Marley Roe and Meg Carter lead the assist effort with 259 and 197 respectively. Cassidy Fried and Trainor are tied for the top spot in service aces with 14.
On defense, Taylor Snow has the most blocks for the Bison with 56, followed closely by Fried who has 54 this season. Treanor also provides solid defense and is second in digs on the team with 129. Ahead of her is Mya Laufiso, who is seventh in the WAC with 156.
Southern Utah fell 2-3 to UT Arlington in their last meeting, but grabbed a 3-2 win in the last match against Utah Tech.
