Women’s volleyball back home against Northern Arizona

The Southern Utah University women’s volleyball team is back in action this week as they host Northern Arizona University on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m. This will be the second matchup of the season between these two teams. Northern Arizona won the first game 3-1.

Northern Arizona
The Lumberjacks enter this week with a record of 4-4 and are on a two-game win streak. Graduate student Taylor Jacobsen leads NAU with 112 kills on the year giving her a 29.3% kill percentage. In the last matchup against SUU, Jacobsen had 17 kills followed by Hanah Stoddard with 15. 

Redshirt Junior Karya Suvarioglu leads the team with eight service aces. The main concern for the Lumberjacks is their high amount of errors on the serve, seeing as they have a total of 65 compared to their opponents 49. 

Southern Utah
The Thunderbirds are looking for a fast start scoring 4-4 on the season and 4-1 in their last five games.. Southern Utah is 3-0 when they win the first set and just 1-4 when they don’t. Junior Victoria Zibecchi is No. 8 in the Western Athletic Conference in kills per game, averaging 2.88.

Setter Teniyah Leuluai ranks fifth in the conference in assists with 7.52 per game, and 227 on the year. On the defensive side, Arianna Rossi leads the team in digs with 82 followed by Andrea Spasojevic with 62. 

This game can either be viewed live in the American First Event Center or can be streamed on ESPN+.
