The Southern Utah University men’s basketball is looking to break their four-game losing streak as they travel to take on the University of Texas at Arlington on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m. This game can be viewed on ESPN+.
In their last meeting on Feb. 1, UTA came out on top against SUU 76-68.
UT Arlington
The Mavericks enter this week with a record of 13-13 overall and 8-7 in the Western Athletic Conference, which sits them at fourth place in the WAC resume seeding system. The Mavericks are 4-2 in their last six games with a +8.8 scoring margin. Graduate student DaJuan Gordon averaged 15.6 points per game in that span.
In their previous meeting with Southern Utah, guard Phillip Russell led the Mavericks with five made three-pointers, including a team-high 22 points. UTA is one of the best shooting teams in the conference, leading all teams in made three-pointers with 233. In their wins, they are averaging 10.9 made threes compared to only 6.2 in their losses.
Southern Utah
Southern Utah comes into this week sitting at just 9-17 overall and 4-11 in the WAC. It has been a rough couple of weeks for the Thunderbirds, as they are just 1-5 in their last six games with their only win coming against the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley. Southern Utah currently is in 10th place in the WAC resume seeding.
If Southern Utah gets back on track, it will be because they score at a high rate. SUU ranks No. 3 in the conference in scoring, averaging 75.5 points per game. Junior guard Dominique Ford has been the team’s best scorer with his 16.4 points per game. Southern Utah also defends the three well, allowing teams to shoot just 32.3% from behind the arc.
