The Southern Utah University men’s and women’s track and field teams had some big performances in the Ron Mann Classic on Friday, Feb. 2.
Men’s
Southern Utah had a great performance in the mile run with four runners in the top 10. This included a second-place finish from Jacob Peterson at four minutes and 21.02 seconds. Right behind him was Hayden Howard with a time of 4:23.55. Nethaneel Taylor and Camden Cox took sixth and seventh place with times of 4:28.27 and 4:29.02.
The 800-meter was also a strong event for the Thunderbirds. Brady Bettridge placed fifth with a time of 1:58.50, and Bailey Oswald got seventh place with a time of 2:01.95.
Victor Pampuch secured a personal best and placed fourth in shot put with a distance of 49 feet and 6.5 inches.
Another standout performance was put on by Trent Summers on the pole vault. He cleared 14-7 1/4, earning him his new personal best. This also tied him for eighth place all-time in SUU history.
Women’s
Starting with the 800, Gentry Perkins placed third with a new season-best time of 2:18.40.
In the 200, Secret Mceuen got fourth-place with a time of 24.66 seconds.
Mikayla Pitcher placed tenth in the mile run, clocking a time of 5:21.84. This performance was a new personal best for the freshman.
Emelia Thurston’s season best in the long jump event got her a sixth-place finish by clearing a distance of 18-3 3/4. Close behind her with a seventh-place finish was Melissa Crane, who set a new personal best with a distance of 17-9 3/4.
Next for SUU
The Thunderbirds will have two meets this week at the Don Kirby Invitational and Husky Classic on Friday, Feb. 9, and Saturday, Feb. 10.
