Campus Connect events have been a tradition put on by the Southern Utah University Student Association. However, SUUSA recently announced a name change to “Meet Your Clubs.”
The goal of the name change is to put a stronger emphasis on the actual clubs of SUU, rather than the event. The events are designed for students to get to know their SUU clubs better and see if they are interested in joining any of them.
The first Meet Your Clubs event of the school year was held on Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 6-8 p.m. in the ballroom of the Student Center. Many different clubs attended, including the Parkour Club, Student Alumni and Women in Aviation, along with 12 other clubs.
“This is a place to meet your clubs,” said Tennison Pay, a sophomore who is an Economics and Finance major. “It benefits students because it’s a way to get more involved on campus. Obviously not everyone comes to college knowing exactly what they want to do and who they want to be with. This event gives students a way to find things they are interested, sign up, and meet new people.”
Not only is the event a way to network here on campus, but SUUSA provided free pizza and root beer, and the clubs provided multiple Halloween themed games.
Meet Your Clubs opens the door for club presidencies to recruit new members each month.
“We have gotten the most sign ups from these types of events,” said Jeff Mullins, president of the College Diabetes Network. “They are honestly where the majority of our members come from. It’s a great way to get the word out.”
The next Meet Your Clubs event takes place on Nov. 12. Details regarding the time and location will be announced through SUUSA’s instagram page.
