The rivalry never sleeps.
Southern Utah University announced a rare partnership with Weber State University on Thursday, Oct. 24. The two school’s athletic departments have organized a food donation drive called Rivalry ‘Food Fight’.
The drive will last from Nov. 1 to Nov. 23 and fans can donate non-perishable food items at all of SUU’s home athletic events. A donation also grants free entry to the Men’s and Women’s Basketball home openers on Nov. 1 and Nov. 5.
These schools can’t coexist without competition, and the drive will be no different. Whichever athletic department gathers more donations will be deemed the winner. The prize?
The winners will get to throw a pie in the face of the Athletic Director and President of the losing university at halftime of the SUU vs. Weber Men’s Basketball game.
Donors can bring food items to Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Volleyball and Football games in November, or can stop by the bin in front of the America First Events Center’s ticket office any time.
Utah Food Bank will collect the donations and distribute them to the Iron County Care and Share branch for southern Utah residents.
SUU and Weber have been rivals since 1984 when the T-Birds travelled to Ogden for a football game. Their similar size and location has naturally pitted the schools against each other.
This is a great way to give back to the community while still trying to beat Weber.
