To wrap up Homecoming Week, the SUU Wind Symphony teamed up with members of the Alumni Band to provide a show, playing classical music at the Heritage Center Theatre. The concert featured classic songs such as Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” and other artists such as Frank Ticheli and John Mackey.
“The SUU Alumni Band Concert has become a biennial tradition since 2012,” said Dr. Adam Lambert, Director of Bands at SUU. “Alumni have joined us from all over the country to participate in this band. Many of our alumni from the SUU band program have gone on to pursue musical professions in performance and education.”
The Wind Symphony is an auditioned ensemble made up of the top wind and percussion students at SUU. The ensemble is committed to providing the highest quality contemporary and traditional works of various wind bands.
Any students wishing to join the ensemble can audition to do so, as the group is open to students of any major.
One of the audience members, Mindy Graff, is married to band member Russell Graff, and brought their children to see the performance.
“It’s nice to take them to see him in concert,” she said. “It’s [my son’s] first concert, so it kind of makes it come to life.”
The concert draws from SUU’s nationwide alumni association and takes place every other year at the Heritage Center Theatre. If you missed it this year, you can come enjoy the next concert in 2021.
