SUUSA Senate Meeting 9/24

The Southern Utah University Student Association held their weekly senate meeting Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019 at 11:30 a.m.

Those in attendance included President Jeff Carr, Vice President of Academics Brandon Payne, Vice President of Clubs Austin Johnson, Vice President of Finance Andrew Clemons and the senators of the respective colleges at SUU, such as the College of Science and Engineering and College and Visual and Performing Arts.

SUUSA always opens their meetings with reports by advisors, committees and senators. Reports varied from department to department, ranging from updating social media accounts to extending social networks for graduate students to college socials.

To date, SUUSA has spent less than one percent of their allocated budget for club and individual funding this year. Andrew Clemons brought three funding requests, all of which were unanimously approved with no abstentions.

SUUSA approved funding of $1,375 to the baseball club for entrance to a league to pay for league administration fees. The club is 60 members strong, and funding was unanimously approved. Andrew Clemons led the approval and felt it was important the baseball club receive funding and representation.

Other funding approvals were to Illustrators of SUU, who were granted $1,400 for travel and expenses related to the CTN Animation Expo being held in Burbank, California in Nov. 2019.

The third approval motion was for the Geology Club, who has members presenting at the geology conference in Phoenix, Arizona. They were approved $1,040 for expenses related to this conference.

Senate Meetings are held every Tuesday in the Sterling Church Auditorium and are open to anyone wishing to attend.
