Two Pharmacies Robbed in Cedar City

During the early morning hours of Monday, Sept. 9, three young adult men attempted to burglarize two pharmacy businesses in Cedar City by breaking windows to feed an apparent drug habit.

“In these circumstances the subjects we dealt with appeared to be under the influence,” said Cedar City Police Department Public Information Officer Sergeant Clint Pollock.

Talking about a recent string of pharmacy burglaries in Cedar City, Sergeant Pollock continued, “…these were not what appeared to be a planned-out burglary.”

After the police were notified of the attempted burglary at the Township Pharmacy on the North end of town at 12:51 a.m. Monday morning, patrols were started around other pharmacies in the city. This was done in order to ensure public safety as well as business security.

Another Cedar City Police Officer on the South side of town observed a broken window at and “some males” near the Cedar Drug and Gift at 1:47 a.m. according to the police issued press release.

“As this officer was speaking with these subjects,” the press release continued, “a description of the three suspects involved in the attempted burglary at Township Pharmacy was given and it matched that of the three subjects with whom the officer was speaking.”

Police secured a warrant to search the subjects’ vehicle, located in a nearby parking lot and found “some suspected marijuana as well as some prescription tablets” inside.  Gray Bastian (20), Zachary Sipe (18) and a 16-year-old minor (L.D.), have been taken into custody on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges related to the alleged crimes.

Sergeant Pollock urges everyone to follow a “9 p.m. routine” of locking up valuables and vehicles, turning on the outside lights to your home and keeping an eye on your property.
