SUU Sports Weekend Recap (4/4-4/7)

Did you miss any of the action from SUU’s busy weekend? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a recap of everything that happened around SUU athletics this weekend.

SUU Softball Swept by Weber State

OGDEN, Utah– The T-Birds dropped a pair of one-run decisions on Friday before concluding the series with a 9-4 loss on Saturday against the Weber State Wildcats.

Makenzie Ball and Makall Whetten each went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead SUU in their 3-2 loss in Thursday’s first game. Hannah Wynn was the losing pitcher as she fell to 2-9 on the season.

The Thunderbirds late rally fell short in game two on Thursday as they lost 7-6. SUU scored three runs in the top of the 7th before the Wildcats recorded the last out to seal the victory. Dream Weaver, Hannah Williams and Kendall Kapitzke all homered for SUU in the loss. Hannah Lilly fell to 0-8 as the losing pitcher.

In the series finale, Kapitzke hit a grand slam in the top of the first to drive in the T-Birds only four runs of the contest. Wynn was given the loss, moving her record to 2-10 overall.

SUU (3-24, 1-5) will return to action on Friday, April 12 as they host Northern Colorado in a double-header at Kathryn Berg Field. The game will be streamed on Pluto TV Channel 236.

Men’s Tennis Defeats Eastern Washington

CEDAR CITY, Utah– The T-Birds picked up their fifth straight victory with their 6-1 win over Eastern Washington on Saturday.

SUU now sits at second place in the Big Sky with a record of 5-2 in league play and 13-5 overall. The team will look to continue their winning-streak on Sunday, April 14 when they host the Idaho Vandals.

Women’s Tennis Falls to Weber State

CEDAR CITY, Utah– The SUU women’s tennis team lost 6-1 to rival Weber State on Friday.

The Thunderbirds (11-6, 4-1) remain in second place in the Big Sky. They return home on April 13 to host the Idaho State Bengals.
