CEDAR CITY, Utah– The T-Birds were defeated 13-4 by the BYU Cougars in a mercy-rule shortened six inning contest on Tuesday afternoon.
SUU’s Hannah Lilly dropped to 0-7 on the season while Arissa Paulsen picked up the victory to improve to 6-6 overall.
BYU struck first with a four-run first inning before SUU got on the board in the bottom half on an RBI single from Kendall Kapitzke, making the score 4-1 BYU.
The Cougars added two more runs in the third inning on a pair of RBI singles from Olivia Sanchez and Ashley Godfrey. Libby Sugg then slugged a two-run homer in the fourth to stretch the BYU lead to 8-1.
The Thunderbirds scored on a two-run homer from Hannah Williams in the fourth inning then added another run in the fifth on Kapitzke’s RBI double to make the score 8-4.
After scoring four runs in the top of the sixth, BYU held SUU scoreless in the bottom half to finish off the 13-4 win.
BYU finished the game with 18 total hits compared to eight for the T-Birds. Neither team committed an error.
SUU travels to Ogden to take on rival Weber State with a double-header on April 5 followed by a single game on the 6th. The series will be streamed on Pluto TV.
