Southern Utah Men’s Basketball to Host Postseason Basketball Game

CEDAR CITY, Utah — The Southern Utah University basketball team will host Drake University on Friday in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.

SUU will play their first postseason basketball since 2001 and in their second postseason tournament since joining Division I in 1988.

SUU finished with a 16-16 record and lost in the semifinal of the Big Sky Conference Tournament. This was one of the best seasons in program history and the bid is indicative of the success the team had.

The CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) is for mid and low-major college basketball programs that weren’t selected for the NCAA tournament or NIT. The tournament began in 2009 and will feature 26 teams this season.

Each CIT game is played on one of the participating teams’ home courts. It reportedly costs $30,000 to host a CIT contest.

The tournament functions as a place for small schools to shine. The 2018 CIT Champion was fellow Big Sky team Northern Colorado.

The CIT invites teams that finished with a 0.500 or better overall record and follows the “old NIT format.” There is no set bracket for the tournament. Matchups are created after each round based on the team’s performance during the season.

SUU will take on Drake University Friday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. Find out more about the CIT on CollegeInsider.com.
