Southern Utah Women’s Basketball Falls to Montana State on Senior Night

CEDAR CITY, Utah — Southern Utah Women’s Basketball wrapped up their final home game this season falling to the Montana State 70-55.

Monday night was also Senior Night for the T-Birds and lone senior Bre Reid played well in her last game in Cedar City. She scored 21 points and passed the 1,000 point mark for her career.

The T-birds started off the game slowly. They battled to find the basket. Montana State began found their rhythm early and led 6-14 at the end of the 1st quarter.

As the second quarter began play, the T-birds started to come together causing several turnovers and capitalizing off Montana State’s turnovers.  

The Bobcats didn’t slow down. They continued to feed the paint and out rebounded the T-birds 23-11

The T-birds trailed the Bobcats 22-31 and shot 46.7 percent from the field

The second half kicked off with Montana State stretching their lead to 20 with 6:30 remaining in the third quarter and knocking down three 3’s straight in the opening minutes of play.

Montana State out scored Southern Utah 27-14 in the third quarter and that is when they ran away with the lead and did not look back.

MSU’s Madeline Smith led all scorers with 27 points on 12-20 shooting.

The loss moves the T-Birds to 7-21 on the season and 4-15 in conference play.

SUU finishes their season on Thursday, March 7 at Northern Colorado.
