SUU Basketball Defeats Idaho to Earn Seventh Consecutive Home Win

CEDAR CITY, Utah– Harrison Butler earned a double-double with a career-high 21 points and 13 rebounds to help lead SUU to an 85-76 victory over the Idaho Vandals on Saturday afternoon.

The victory gave the T-Birds their seventh-straight home win and their tenth win in Cedar City this season. SUU also picked up their ninth Big Sky win, which is the program’s best since joining the conference.

The Thunderbirds notched their 14th win of the season which is the most the school has gotten since the 2011-12 season.

SUU led nearly the whole game, trailing only twice in the game. They were behind 9-8 with 16:55 in the first half and again 20-18 at the 11:03 mark. SUU retook the lead, 22-20, with 10:10 to go in the opening half then never looked back.

“It was a solid performance today,” SUU head coach Todd Simon said. “Anytime you can get a win it’s a good performance, but we felt like we controlled the game for the most part which is a sign of our maturity.

Cameron Oluyitan scored 17 points, shooting 5 of 10 overall and 3 of 5 from three-point range. Dre Marin and Brandon Better both scored double-digits with 14 and 13 points respectively.

Jared Rodriguez led the Vandals, notching a double-double at 28 points and eleven rebounds.

The T-Birds (14-12, 9-8) now sit at sixth place in the Big Sky. The team returns to action Saturday, March 2 as they travel to Montana to take on the Grizzlies. The game will be streamed on Pluto TV.
