Quit Bugging Me

Love animals, hate your ex? The El Paso Zoo has a solution for you to help make this Valentine’s Day even more special by letting you name a cockroach after your ex.

For young and happily-in-love couples Valentines Day is a magical and romantic day of chocolates, flowers, promises and whispered I love yous.

For single people, whether happily so or not so much, V-day is pretty much akin to torture with every couple on your social media making long gooey posts about how much they love their significant other. And if that wasn’t nauseating enough all chocolates go on sale and it is far too easy to over-gorge.

I personally enjoy watching all the people flood my feed with posts knowing that some of them will be broken up within a week and hopefully more of them will be engaged and even more mushy within the month. It’s a fun time to be watching.

But if you disagree with my definition of fun, thankfully, the zoo will break up your newsfeed with something actually sweet and amusing. No only are they allowing internet users to name a cockroach after their ex they will then feed that cockroach to a meerkat on Valentine’s Day.

Sarah Borrego, the El Paso Zoo event coordinator, said that “the event is to help get the community involved.”

“The meerkats love to get cockroaches as a snack and what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than by feeding them a cockroach named after your ex!”

To submit a name, message the El Paso Zoo on Facebook by Feb. 10. The zoo will start displaying names on Feb. 11 on its social media.

And if it couldn’t get any better the zoo announced today that due to the high media response for the even they will be extending the invitation to feed other zoo animals.

The feeding will be live-streamed on Feb. 14 beginning at 2:15 p.m on the El Paso Zoo website or through their Facebook.
