SUU Outdoors Hosts Add-On Bouldering Competition

On Wednesday Oct. 4,  SUU Outdoors hosted its first Add-On Competition.  The event, which was held at the P.E. building rock wall, was organized by Jess Mathison, the climbing wall manager for SUU Outdoors.

“It’s just a fun thing for people to do,” Mathison said.

Competitors were split into three categories: women’s, men’s beginner and men’s advanced.  Elise Bauer won the women’s category, Hunter Laugh won the men’s beginner category and Davis Rackham won the men’s advanced category.

This was the first of several events to be sponsored by SUU outdoors.  Smaller events similar to the add on competition will take place throughout the fall semester.  The annual bouldering competition will take place during the spring semester.

Those who want to use the climbing wall are welcome to Monday through Friday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.  Wall equipment and access is free to SUU students.

SUU Outdoors sponsors a range of adventures to students throughout the school year to ignite a passion in recreation. These trips are offered to students with any skill level from beginner to expert. Activities offered include rock climbing, snowboarding and skiing, rafting, canyoneering, cross-country skiing, paddle boarding, mountain biking, sledding, kayaking, caving, snowshoeing, tubing, backpacking, hiking and trips to surrounding national parks.
