Southern Utah sophomores Madison and Megan McBride have been named MRGC Co-Vault Specialists of the Week after scoring back-to-back 9.850’s on the event in the Flippin’ Birds’ win over Iowa last Friday.
“This whole season Megan has been drilling her vaults and I keep saying ‘I just want to stick a vault like Megan McBride’ so being able to do it together and get the same scores is a dream come true,” Madison McBride said.
The twins were the first two competitors on the event for the Thunderbirds and ended up winning the event championship at the end of the meet with their top scores.
“The McBride girls started us off on vault and ended up winning the event championship. That’s tough to do. They drilled those vaults,” head coach Scotty Bauman said. “Madison’s vault has really come a long way in the last couple of weeks and the sheer excellence that Megan puts into her vault has pushed Maddy up to that level.”
They shared the award with BYU’s Angel Zhong who also scored a 9.850 on the event in their win over Boise State.
The Flippin’ Birds will return to the floor of competition this Saturday March 3 for their final regular season home meet.
