Women’s Golf Finished Third At Boulder Creek

The Thunderbird women’s golf team finished third at the 2018 Battle at Boulder Creek on Tuesday, shooting a 930 (319, 298, 313) as a team.

Sophomore Kyla Smith was SUU’s top finisher at the event. Despite shooting an 84 in the opening round, Smith shot a 72 in the second round on Monday and a 76 in the third round on Tuesday to finish with a score of 323. That mark put her in a tie for ninth at the event.

SUU’s next finisher was Kamonwan (Poy) Prasurtwong, who finished in a tie for 13th on the leaderboard after shooting a 233 (77, 72, 84).

Third for the Thunderbirds at the event was Lindsay Aleman, who shot a 236 (75, 77, 84) over the three rounds of play in Boulder City. Nicole Jones was fourth for the Thunderbirds and finished tied for 23rd in the field with a 237 (83, 77, 77). Miranda Reyes rounded out the Thunderbird lineup, shooting a 240 (87, 77, 76), which put her in a tie for 30th in the field.

Southern Utah’s low round was their second on Tuesday, when the team shot a combined 298.

The Thunderbirds had two individuals playing in the event as well. Launa Wilson finished in 51st with a score of 254 (82, 88, 84) and Katherine Wills shot a 278 (98, 90, 90) to finish in 55th.

Toledo took home the team title, as well as the individual title in Boulder City. Pinyada Kuvanun won the event from an individual perspective, shooting a 220 (77, 73, 70).

Northern Illinois (927) finished second, with Northern Colorado (931) and Southern Illinois (932) rounding out the top five.

The Thunderbirds will get back to competition on March 5 when they participate in the 2018 Fresno State Classic at Copper River Country Club in Clovis, California.
