There is no way to recap week five, or speculate about week six of ABC’s “The Bachelor,” without first stating that “Hurricane Krystal” is a whole mile of crazy in one 80s classic sitcom villain package.
Week five of ABC’s season 22 of “The Bachelor” aired on Monday, Jan. 29 set in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. This episode marks the season half over with tempers and drama running as hot and heavy as the beach the contestants stayed on.
The first one-on-one date of the week was with Chelsea, a single mom who went from first-week frontrunner to falling into the shadows. Nevertheless, Arie Luyendyk Jr., this season’s bachelor, took Chelsea on a yacht (shocker) named Paradise.
After a lot of sun, water, jet skies and making-out, the two of them retired to a vintage car warehouse where Chelsea shared her journey leading to the show, recapping for Luyendyk how she became a single mother and, after which, Luyendyk presented her with a rose.
Next came the always-dramatic group date. This included contestants Maquel, Krystal, Jenna, Ashley, Becca K., Bekah, Kendall, Seinne, Jacquline, Marikh and Lauren B., who went to a bowling alley to meet up with Luyendyk.
After warming up, Luyendyk announced they would split into two teams, competing for his affection. also proclaimed only the winners would be proceeding to the cocktail party, while the losers would have to go back to the hotel.
Team blue, lead by Krystal, won. But after some thinking, Luyendyk changed his mind sitting all of the ladies down to figurative participation trophies (this is the 21st century American way).
This ticked Krystal off. Convinced of her own, and only, feminine power and importance, Krystal felt that Luyendyk was a liar and disrespectful of team blues victory. This, of course, played into her hand but came back to haunt her when she later decided to teach Luyendyk a lesson by not showing up to the evening portion of the date.
At the end of the night, Lauren B. received the group date rose.
The second one-on-one date of the week was with Tia, 26-year-old physical therapist from Arkansas. The date took the two of them on an airboat ride through the Everglades that was, as Luyendyk said, “country date for a country girl.”
After the ride, which left the pair windswept and worked-up after spotting an alligator, the two discussed faith, family and Tia’s desire to get out of Arkansas. This date also marked the first “I’m falling in love with you” confession of the season.
Tia also received a rose at the end of the night.
In the end, Luyendyk gave roses to Bekah, Seinne, Kendall, Becca K.,Jacqueline, Jenna and Krystal. This brings us to week six, with only nine ladies competing for Luyendyk in the season’s first international trip to Paris, France.
Sneak-peaks have shown next week brings more drama, with the first dreaded two-on-one date in Paris, France.
My prediction is that Krystal is going to be sent home before the end of the episode, but hopefully not before entertaining us with breathy words of hate, frustration and confusion about others’ emotions.
I am also predicting a kiss at the top of the Eiffel Tower, romance in the Luxembourg Gardens and one of the bright young contestants realizing that a middle-aged, washed-up race-car driver is not the one for them and leaving the show of their own free will.
