The SUU women’s basketball team will hit the road this week for Big Sky Conference rematches with Weber State and Idaho State.
Last Time Out
Last week the Lady T-Birds hosted Montana and Montana State in the America First Event Center. They lost both games by single-digit margins and held leads at one point in both. Whitney Johnson and Ashley Larsen were the top scorers for Southern Utah as Johnson put up 15 against Montana and Larsen had 13 against Montana State.
The Thunderbirds continue to lead the Big Sky in steals per game, averaging 11.4 per game, almost a full steal more than the next team. They also lead the Big Sky in turnover margin at a whopping +3.40. The next closest team is Northern Colorado with a +1.85.
Scouting Report: Weber State Wildcats (14-5, 6-2 BSC)
The Wildcats come into Thursday’s game having won five of their last six Big Sky Conference matchups. Their only loss in that stretch came in the form of a 77-64 loss to Portland State. The Wildcats made the trip south to Cedar City back on January 6 and were able to defeat the Thunderbirds 77-64. Larryn Brooks, the Wildcats’ leading scorer, put up 21 points on the Southern Utah defense in that game and Jocelyn Adams had a double-double.
Weber State currently sits one game out of first place in the Big Sky behind the Grizzlies of Montana.
Scouting Report: Idaho State Bengals (12-7, 4-4 BSC)
The Thunderbirds picked up their first Big Sky win of the season over the Bengals 76-70 at home on January 4. Since then Idaho State has won four of their last six games, moving to 4-4 in conference play. Brooke Blair, who had 14 points in the first matchup, is the leading scorer for the Bengals, averaging 14.7 points per game.
The Bengals lead the Big Sky in field goal percentage (44.3%) and three-point field goal percentage (37.3%).
