SUU (5-3) will look to continue their three-game winning-streak when they take on No. 3 Michigan State (8-1) at the Breslin Student Event Center on Saturday evening. Although the Thunderbirds are still undefeated at home, they have just a 1-3 record on the road this year.
The Thunderbirds have won five of their last six contests after starting the season 0-2. The last time SUU has had five or more wins this early in the season was 2006-07. That also happened to be the last season the T-Birds finished with a winning record.
The Thunderbird offense has been consistent all season, averaging 83.5 points per game. Junior guard Jadon Cohee leads the charge with 18 points per game. Senior forward Jamal Aytes is averaging 14.6 points per game and 7 rebounds per game. Rounding out the top three is junior guard Brandon Better, also scoring over 14 points per game.
No. 3 Michigan State has not lost a home game this season. They’ve beaten North Florida, Stony Brook, Notre Dame and Nebraska on their home court so far. The Spartans’ only loss of the season came at the hands No. 1 Duke at a neutral location.
The Spartans rank nationally in the top 25 in rebounds per game (43.1), assists per game (18.2) and average points allowed (61.1). MSU has five players averaging double-digit points per game, led by sophomore guard Miles Bridges’ 15.4 average. Sophomore guard Joshua Langford averages 13.6 points per game and sophomore forward Nick Ward sits at 13.3 points per game.
The game will be available on the Big Ten Network and can be listened to on KSUB 590 AM.
