SUU (4-3) will welcome Long Beach State (LBSU) (4-6) to the America First Events Center on Wednesday night. The Thunderbirds have not lost a home game yet this season, with a 3-0 home record. LBSU is the only Big West opponent on SUU’s schedule this year.
After dropping their first two contests of the season at Oregon State and Boise State, the Thunderbirds have won four of their last five games. The lone loss in that stretch came in a competitive road loss against then undefeated UNLV. The wins were against San Jose State, Benedictine, Pepperdine and San Diego Christian College. The win at Pepperdine marked the school’s first victory over a West Coast Conference opponent since 1997.
Junior guard Jadon Cohee leads SUU scoring with an average of 17 points per game. Senior forward Jamal Aytes is averaging 15 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game. Junior guard Brandon Better has put up 12.3 points per game this season.
LBSU started 2-0 this season before losing six of the last eight. Many of their losses have been lopsided. The 49ers have lost games by 29, 37, 35 and 36 points. LBSU, however, did win their most recent game against Stanford 76-68. Senior forward Gabe Levin leads the team with 13.4 points per game and junior guard Bryan Albert follows with 11.9 points per game.
The game will be streamed on Pluto TV channel 236 and can be listened to on KSUB 590 AM.
