The Great American Songbook Series put on by the SUU Department of Music is continuing at the Southern Utah Museum of Art this upcoming Tuesday, Dec. 5.

The music of the concert will focus on songs written by both Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rodgers, both of whom were successful lyricists in some of the most well known Broadway musicals.

Claire Robinson, a senior vocal performance major from Pleasant Grove, said everyone will enjoy this concert.

“Rodgers and Hammerstein’s shows are the classics,” Robinson said. “Everyone knows them and loves them. Those who attend will hear their favorite musical theatre hits.”

Both Hammerstein and Rodgers worked on pieces for the musicals “Oklahoma,” “The Sound of Music,” “South Pacific” and “The King and I.”

Tickets are priced at $10 per adult and $5 per student, with the proceeds going toward assisting students with instrument repair and travel for conferences throughout the year.

The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at SUMA.

The series will continue throughout the rest of the year and the beginning of 2018, with a concert in February and March.
