Thunderbird Softball Announces 2018 Regular Season Schedule

The Southern Utah University softball team and head coach Tom Gray have announced their schedule for the upcoming 2018 season.

The team will kick things off in Las Vegas on February 9 at the Sportco Kickoff Classic hosted by UNLV. They will play five games over three days against teams that include the University of Minnesota, North Dakota State, Creighton University, Utah Valley, and UNLV. The Thunderbirds will then head to Baton Rouge, Louisiana the following weekend to compete in the Purple & Gold Challenge hosted by LSU. They will play Oregon State, Louisiana Tech, Central Arkansas, and the host Tigers over three days in the south.

The Thunderbirds will be hosting the annual St. George Red Desert Classic the weekend of March 2. The tournament will consist of seven teams competing over three days at the Canyons Softball Complex in St. George. Southern Utah will be playing two games against Seattle University, two games against the Nevada Wolf Pack, and single games against Boise State and Utah Valley.

The Thunderbirds will play in their final tournament of the season on the weekend of March 9 in Los Angeles, California at the Loyola Marymount Tournament. Throughout the course of the tournament the T-Birds will match up against Florida Gulf Coast University, Harvard, Providence College, and the host Lions.

The Thunderbirds will begin Big Sky Conference play on March 23 as they host Weber State for their first three-game series of the season. They will then travel to Greeley to play the Bears of Northern Colorado the weekend of March 30 before returning home to host North Dakota the weekend of April 6 and the Montana Grizzlies the weekend of April 13. They will wrap up the regular season with road series against Sacramento State, Idaho State, and a final home series against Portland State the weekend of May 5. The Big Sky Conference Championship Tournament is set to begin on May 10 in Ogden at Weber State.

Throughout the season, the Thunderbirds will play non-conference games with BYU, Utah, and Utah Valley.
