No. 6 Thunderbirds Continue To Climb The National Polls

The Thunderbirds have soared to the No. 6 spot in the country according to the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association), moving up seven spots in week four.

The Thunderbird men now hold the highest ranking of any program at Southern Utah since the transition to Division I. This is the first time the program has broken into the Top 10 of the USTFCCCA Rankings.

The T-Birds were previously ranked 13th in week three and moved ahead of teams like No.7 Colorado, No. 8 Oregon and No. 28 Wisconsin.

Several changes have been made in the top five with BYU now No. 2, joining No. 1 Northern Arizona, No. 3 Syracuse, No.4 Stanford and No. 5 Arkansas.

Head coach Eric Houle was pleased with Southern Utah’s placement this week.

“I think it shows respect for the program,” Houle said.

This is the highest ranking any SUU team has held since becoming DI.

“To have a university like ours be in the mix of some of the major universities in this country is amazing,” Houle said. “It’s good for the athletes, the coaches, the program, as well as the university.”

The men will be competing next at the Color Country Invitational on Saturday October 7th here in Cedar City. The races will take place at the Cedar Ridge Golf Course and are set to begin at 8 a.m. MT.
