Getting Active During the Outdoor Nation Challenge

SUU is hosting multiple opportunities for those looking to get their blood pumping during the Outdoor Nation challenge. While sitting in a hammock for an hour or star gazing is nice, it could be even better to improve one’s health before the Halloween candy and Thanksgiving portions hit.

Hiking Yoga

Give the sun salutations with Cedar Yoga Space tomorrow morning. They will be meeting at the trailhead to the Red Hill trail, and leaving promptly at 6:45 a.m.. Participants should wear hiking shoes, comfortable but not loose-fitting clothing, sunscreen, bring water and a light snack and a yoga mat that can be carried with a strap or pack.

Hike with President Wyatt

Every morning from Monday through Saturday during the challenge, students can join University President Scott Wyatt for a morning hike. The hikes start at 5:50 a.m., and those wanting to participate should meet in the C-trail parking lot. Running shoes should be worn.

Yoga Outside

T-Fit is hosting four sessions of outdoor yoga every Tuesday in the business quad. Participants will need to bring their own yoga mats, and comfortable but not loose-fitting clothing should be worn. Future sessions will be on Oct. 3 and 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Walk with a leader Wednesday

Every Wednesday students will have the chance to take a short walk around campus with leaders at SUU and enjoy a treat at the end. Walks are every Wednesday starting at 2 p.m. at the belltower. Oct. 4 will feature political leaders on campus, and Oct. 11 will feature arts leaders on campus.

Mountain Biking

Cedar Sports is hosting mountain biking opportunities every Friday, meeting at the store and traveling to different trail locations during the challenge. Participants can rent a bike from Cedar Sports for free or bring their own. Call Cedar Sports ahead of the event at (435) 586-5651 to rent a bike. Ten participants will be shuttled, and more can follow behind. A short introduction to mountain biking will be conducted before each ride for those unfamiliar with the sport. Future opportunities to ride are Sept. 29, Oct. 6 and 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Zombie Apocalypse 5k

Run like Rick and Carl during a zombie themed 5k run starting at 7 a.m. at Park Discovery Lawn on Oct. 7. The 5k is in need of survivors to run and zombies to chase. To differ from other runs and add an interesting twist, runners will have three flags and have to run from one base camp to another without losing all of their flags to complete the 5k. For more information call (435) 586-2770.

Don’t forget to log hours for the Outdoor Nation Challenge through their app found in the Apple app store or Google play store.
