With two fall events under their belts, the Thunderbird women’s golf team will head to The Classic Club in Palm Desert, California this weekend for the 2017 Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate.
The Thunderbirds wrapped up play at the Rose City Collegiate on Tuesday, with sophomore Kyla Smith leading the charge shooting a 221 (75, 71, 75). Kamonwan (Poy) Prasurtwong was second for the Thunderbirds and 26th in the field with a 225 (78, 71, 76).
Miranda Reyes (227), Lindsay Aleman (238) and Nicole Jones (239) made up the rest of the Thunderbird lineup.
The 2017 Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate will be a two-day, three-round event with 18 holes played on Saturday and a final round played on Sunday. The course will play par-72 at a length of 6,097
Last year at the event the Thunderbirds finished in seventh place as a team. Prasurtwong finished in a tie for second at the event, which was her third second-place finish in a row to start the 2016-17 season.
Santa Clara won the event in 2016 by shooting +18.
Competing Teams: Wyoming, Northern Arizona, Santa Clara, UC Riverside, Hawaii, UT Arlington, Southern Utah, CSUN, CSU Bakersfield, Utah Valley, North Dakota and Montana.
Scoring Five: Kamonwan (Poy) Prasurtwong, Kyla Smith, Miranda Reyes, Nicole Jones and Lindsay Aleman.
Individuals: Taylor Bandley, Katie Wills and Launa Wilson.
