Women’s Golf Opens Competition At Rose City Collegiate

The second fall event for the Thunderbird women’s golf team is underway, as they are competing at the Rose City Collegiate on Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Oregon.

Sophomore Kyla Smith led the way for the Thunderbirds on Monday, shooting a two-over 146 (75, 71) in the first two rounds, bouncing back strong in the second round. Smith finished the day in a tie for 11th.

Fellow sophomore, Kamonwan (Poy) Prasurtwong, shoot five-over 149 (78, 71) after two rounds of play. Prasutwong was in a tie for 26th on the leaderboard when play came to a close on Monday.

Miranda Reyes was third for the Thunderbirds on Monday, shooting 153 (78, 75). That score put her in a tie for 44th on the leaderboard.

Nicole Jones (156) and Lindsay Aleman (160) were fourth and fifth for the Thunderbirds.

As a team the Thunderbirds shot 310 in the opening round, but responded with a 294 in the second round to bring their first-day score to 604. That put them in 10th place going into the final round on Tuesday.

Cal Poly sits on top of the team leaderboard after the first day with a 574 (291, 283). They were followed by host Portland State (580) and Nevada (583).

PSU’s Tara Finigan is on the top of the individual leaderboard after shooting a 139 (70, 69).

Things in Oregon will wrap up on Tuesday, with the third round set to start in the morning.
