On July 15th, the Utah Board of Higher Education and the Southern Utah University Board of Trustees announced that Mindy Benson is SUU’s 17th University President. Benson is now also the school’s first female president. On Thursday, July 7th, the Southern Utah University Presidential Search Committee officially recommended Mindy Benson, Mablene Krueger and Alan Utter as finalists for the position of University President. The announcement comes after an “extensive national search” of over six months. Since 1986, the Utah Summer Games have been conducted at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah, and 2022 is no exception. The festival for athletes of all ages and skill levels will return with the Opening Ceremonies on June 10 from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Southern Utah University’s graduation is coming up on Friday, April 29, and this year there will be a full day of ceremonies to celebrate the graduates and all of their accomplishments. Southern Utah University soccer player Natalia Sepulveda grew up in Tucson, Arizona to parents who immigrated to the United States from Mexico. She just finished her freshman year as a defender for the Thunderbirds but also has the opportunity for something much greater. Several Southern Utah University athletes along with Turning Point USA held a Protect Women’s Sports rally on Wednesday, April 20, in response to the march and protest in support of transgender rights last week.
