Thunder 91.1

Thunder 91 is the commercial free, student-run FM radio station at Southern Utah University, broadcasting on the frequency 91.1 KSUU-FM. Located in the Sharwan Smith Student Center, Thunder 91 provides music for events across campus and throughout Cedar City.

Radio Legend, Ryan Steineckert leading a Thunder 91 meeting

Under the direction of Ryan Steineckert, students learn the fundamentals of radio broadcasting. Initially branded as Power 91, the station gained its new name Thunder 91.1 in spring 2021.

At the same time, the station was relocated from the AFEC to the front of the Sharwan Smith Student Center, now an integral part of student activities. The new space provides more accessibility and access to student body events as well as improved technology including a podcast studio.

Thunder 91.1 serves as as hands-on tool for students as they learn audio editing, podcasting, production, communication, presentation skills and responsibility.

Students are given the opportunity to engage in social media management and sports broadcasting.
