Amanda Salgado will be making her debut this Saturday at the Festival City Farmer’s Market with baked goods from her home country and her business, Sweet Velvet.
Salgado is from Mexico City and has always loved baking, but started taking it seriously 7 years ago. After leaving her last job, she started taking classes to learn how to bake and decorate sugar cookies. It was a long process, but she’s fallen in love with it.
“I never thought I would make it to where I am today,” Salgado said. “When we moved here, I lost a lot of my clients, and I think the farmer’s market is a good opportunity to showcase my products, and the joy and care I put into making them.”
From Mexican breads and sweets to chunky cookies, she’ll be selling a variety of treats for market goers to try.
“I think this city is missing the Latin touch,” Salgado said. “There’s not a bakery whose main focus is selling Latin products or pastries.”
Salgado is looking to be the one who brings that Latin influence to Cedar City and will start her journey this Saturday at 10 a.m. on 100 W University Boulevard.
