Throughout the month of April, the Utah state parks are hosting a Dark Sky Scavenger Hunt designed especially for nature lovers.
The requirements to participate are:
- Explore at least two regions: Participants must attend four different sky programs hosted by Utah State Parks, visiting at least two different regions of the state.
- Stamp Card: At their first program, participants must request a stamp card. This card must be presented at each following park to receive a stamp or signature as a proof of attendance.
- Solve the riddles: At every stop, participants will be given a specific riddle to solve. Attendees must successfully answer four of these riddles to qualify for the prize.
The grand prize will go to the first person to attend four programs across at least two regions and correctly solve the riddles. The winner will receive a free overnight stay at any of the 46 state parks. In addition, everyone who participates will receive an exclusive night sky collector’s pin.
Once all steps are finished, participants must email a photo of themselves holding their completed stamp card and the riddle answers to parkcomment@utah.gov. Each participant may submit three entries. Winners will be announced via social media and the Utah State Parks website.
The event offers outdoor enthusiasts a chance to explore new locations and compete for a free stay at a park. Amar Surej, a student at Southern Utah University, said the challenge makes it more rewarding.
“I really love this event as it allows me the opportunity to be outdoors while completing a challenge,” Surej said. “ It also gives me a chance to win a night’s stay at any state park.”
