Southern Utah University’s Dining Hall offers a variety of affordable, health-conscious options for its guests. “Plates With a Purpose” is its motto. Beyond the average burger and fries, there are many options to ensure each person’s individual desires, wants and needs.
To do so, the cafeteria is organized into seven distinct stations. Global, Daily, Pure Eats, Pizza & Pasta, Kitchen, Salad Bar and Desserts are among the options available. Each station consistently offers the same or similar dishes throughout the semester, though a variety of menu items will change on occasion. The menu is available on the dining hall’s website.
“We are doing a lot of revisions to the menu, revitalizing, and changing certain dishes to cater to many of the SUU students’ requests, and their specific suggestions,” said Executive Chief Elijah Kelemete. “My job is amazing, great staff and students from all over the world eat here.”
The cafeteria serves meals throughout the day for students and faculty. Breakfast is served from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and costs $11.44. Lunch is available from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for $12.92, and dinner is served from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at a price of $11.24.
Payments can be made with cash, card or prepaid meal plans. Regarding the meal plans, students can choose the option that best fits their needs and link it to their student ID cards. These plans can be loaded with funds online or at the Cashiers’ Office.
Students can order mobile through the Transact Mobile Ordering App. Additionally, if needed, dietitians and nutritionists are available upon request.
Kelemete and the dining hall general manager have been working closely together to deliver some positive changes. They plan to make the Global Station more customer-friendly, by offering a special Thunder burger, Nacho Tacos and Loco Makos. Sushi and Ramen are also to be integrated.
Another engaging staff is Chris Jacobs. Jacobs has been working at the dining hall for 7 years and has spoken about his dedication and appreciation for customers.
“I don’t just clean tables, among other chores, I like to go around and give compliments every day,” said Jacobs.
The cafeteria is planning for a soft-opening rollout after spring break, and will accept feedback, suggestions and requests. These can be submitted either at a kiosk in the main dining room or by phone on this website.
“I love it, bon appetit,” said French exchange student Robin Turbelin about the cafeteria.
