The Bureau of Land Management announced that a coal and oil leasing sale will take place on March 31, 2026, which will offer 57 gas and oil leases spanning 68,632 acres in Utah.
“Leasing is the first step in the process to develop federal oil and gas resources. Before development operations can begin, an operator must submit an application for permit to drill detailing development plans,” the press release said. “The BLM reviews applications for permits to drill, posts them for public review, conducts an environmental analysis and coordinates with state partners and stakeholders.”
The BLM says the parcels that are up for sale have stipulations and regulations to protect the natural resources. Additional information about the leases can be found through the National Fluid Lease Sale System.
A public protest period opened on Jan. 30 and will close on March 30, allowing the BLM to receive more public input. To view maps and instructions on how to submit a protest, visit the BLM’s ePlanning website.
