Extended primary voting pushes Sharp and Crosland to general election

SUUSA Primary Election

The 2026-2027 Southern Utah University Student Association student body president primary election closed today at 5 p.m. after the voting period was extended to resolve a tie between two candidates. After a weekend of additional voting, Jacob Sharp and Tanner Crosland received the most votes and will be moving on to this week’s general election.

When the polls initially closed on Friday, Feb. 27, Sharp and Crosland tied for second place with Ryker Moss and Austin Isom with 168 votes each. Kenzie Porter and Keegan Dickinson received 391 votes.

According to SUUSA election bylaws, only the two candidates with the highest numbers of primary votes advance to the general election. The election committee decided to resolve the tie by reopening voting for Sharp and Crosland, and Moss and Isom.

Sharp and Crosland received the highest number of votes over the weekend, bringing their total votes to 203. Moss and Isom fell short with 176 votes.

Voting for Porter and Dickinson, as well as SUUSA senate candidates, was final on Friday. Their results were not affected by the extension period.

Students can place their votes for Sharp or Porter from Wednesday, March 4, at 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 6. SUUSA senate positions will also be decided during this week’s election. Follow SUUStudentLife on Instagram for more information and keep up with SUU News for election coverage.
