Men’s basketball returns home to take on Tarleton

The Southern Utah University men’s basketball team is returning home to take on Tarleton State in Cedar City on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 6:30 p.m.

This will mark the T-Birds’ first game back following a run of away games. Their most recent game was their second road win of the season, taking down Abilene Christian University 79-76.

This game will be available to stream live on ESPN+.

Southern Utah

SUU currently has an 8-15 overall record and sits at No. 5 in the Western Athletic Conference standings.

The Thunderbirds are recently coming off of a win against ACU, where they successfully disrupted their away-game losing streak and got their first road victory of the season. This wasn’t an easy victory for the team, however, as the T-Birds spent the majority of the game attempting to gain the lead. Their efforts were ultimately successful.

While the Thunderbirds have struggled on the road, they have been largely successful on their home court, boasting a strong 6-2 record. Their last game against Tarleton was also on their home court and resulted in a nail-biting 106-105 victory for SUU. If they are able to play as hard as they have been, SUU could send Tarleton back packing once again.

Tarleton State

Tarleton State currently has an 11-11 overall record and sits at the bottom of the WAC standings.

The Texans have been on a losing streak as of late, with their last six games resulting in defeat. The most recent of these was against Utah Tech, where the game ended in a 65-59 victory for the Trailblazers.

Despite this losing streak, victory came down to one point the last time they played the Thunderbirds, so SUU should not underestimate their opponent.

SUU is 3-4 against TSU all-time. Their most recent win against the first since January 2024.
