Iron Country Yeti to compete against Vernal this Friday

Iron County Yeti, Southern Utah’s  junior hockey team, will take on the Vernal Oilers this Friday, Jan. 16, at 7:30 p.m. The game will take place at the Yeti’s home rink, KJ’s Ice Barn in Enoch, Utah.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10. Student tickets are $8 with a valid university or high school ID.

The Yetis are looking to make a comeback after a two-day losing streak against the Oilers. A recent game on Jan. 2 resulted in a disappointing score of 5-2 and an even worse 9-3 on Jan. 3.

Despite Iron County’s effort, Vernal is likely to give the team a run for their money after earning the first-ever 44-0 undefeated record during the 2024-2025 season.

“The Oilers are indeed hoping to become the Northwest Division playoff champion for a third straight year,” said reporter Joshua Boyd. “They remain the only representatives of the division at the USPHL Nationals following trips in 2023 and 2024.”

However, Iron County Yeti has a promising group of players this season, including November’s Player of the Month, William Hagenmarck.

“From the blue line, William contributed at an elite level offensively while maintaining disciplined, responsible play,” said the Yeti’s November stats. “His ability to generate scoring chances, move the puck with confidence and stay composed under pressure made him a difference maker all month long.”

KJ’s Ice Barn is only a 15-minute drive from Cedar City. Attendees are recommended to arrive early for the best seats. To purchase tickets, visit the Iron County Yeti website
