With the temperatures in Cedar City decreasing, there is no better way to kick off the semester than with a warm bowl of soup at Bread and Soup Nite. On Monday, Jan. 12, Southern Utah University’s Community Engagement Center hosted its monthly Bread and Soup Nite fundraiser in the Sharwan Smith Student Ballroom from 5 to 7 p.m.
This night brought the community together for an evening of food and performances. Attendees were offered a variety of soups, including broccoli, southwest-style chicken, potato and more, along with an assortment of breads and desserts.
Now an SUU tradition, Bread and Soup Nite t is the opportunity to warm up and enjoy a good meal while supporting the university’s Hopes Pantry. Entry only requires a $3 donation or $1 with a can of food.
The pantry is located in room 120 in the Sharwan Smith Student Center and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It offers SUU students essential food and toiletry items as well as educational opportunities to develop food budgeting, meal planning and cooking skills. Through cooking classes, students expand their palates, gain motivation and can take home a homemade meal.
To access the pantry, an appointment needs to be scheduled 24 hours in advance through the SUU portal. Afterwards, students have a 15-minutes window to collect what they need, within the limits imposed.
For those interested in getting involved and supporting the cause, Bread and Soup Nite will return later this semester;
