“Anaconda” was released on Christmas Day, 2025, bringing a family-friendly film to theaters during the holiday season.
“Anaconda,” starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd, brought a comedic twist to the classic 1997 horror franchise. With extremely bad CGI and cheesy writing, the new adaptation brought us back in time to the original film.
Although “Anaconda” has its fair share of tacky dialogue and cringe-worthy moments, it is overall a fun and hilarious film that any age can enjoy. The stacked cast made every character enjoyable and unique.
“The chemistry between Rudd and Black is so fun. They are twinkling,” said movie critic Joelle Monique.
Despite my opinions on the film, others found it to be disappointing, giving it only a 52% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
“The action comedy ‘Anaconda’ tries to be a satirical ‘movie within a movie’ tribute to 1997’s campy horror flick ‘Anaconda’,” said Carla Hay. “The results are like a toothless snake that frequently misses its target.”
Critics believe that Sony Pictures is running out of original ideas, but I think that the 1997 “Anaconda” film was worth the reprise. The new adaptation did a great job at bringing the old film back to life with similar scenes and even cameos from the original film’s stars, Ice Cube and Jennifer Lopez.
This film is far from perfect, but it provides entertainment and laughter all throughout.
“Anaconda” will be in theaters until further notice. Visit Rotten Tomatoes for more information.
