What’s happening at SUMA this Friday?

The Southern Utah Museum of Art will hold its First Friday event on Friday, Dec. 5, from 6 -8 p.m.

First Friday is a community event that takes place on the first Friday of each month, allowing participants to engage in arts and crafts while connecting with others. This month, materials will be provided to create holiday ornaments.

“This town closes, rolls up and dies at 6 p.m. and so, having something that extends beyond 6 p.m. just makes sense to me,” said SUMA director Jason Mooide. “Our normal hours are until 6 p.m., so doing this gives us this opportunity to be creative at least once a month.

This event is free and open to all.

Earlier in the day, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., SUMA will be hosting SUU students for their annual Break to Create event.

This gathering encourages students to take a break from the stress and studying of finals to immerse themselves in creation.

This year, students will craft mosaics inspired by De Stijl artwork. Snacks will also be provided along with an inside look at works from SUMA’s collection and the opportunity to learn about abstract art history.
