The Trump Administration went to the Supreme Court on Monday to push for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits to remain frozen until the government reopens.
An order was passed on Tuesday blocking full SNAP benefits, after a lower court ordered benefits to be paid, which expires on Thursday night.
The Trump Administration argues that it violates the Constitution because it infringes on the spending power of the executive and legislative branches.
Several states are awaiting the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s guidance, which is delaying SNAP payouts to their residents.
The Supreme Court is counting on the reopening of the government so that these benefits can be fully covered.
