Tyler Robinson officially charged in Charlie Kirk death

Tyler Robinson was officially charged in connection to the Charlie Kirk shooting on Sept. 10, 2025. Robinson faces charges including aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, felony discharge of a firearm and witness tampering. He is not eligible for bail.

“The murder of Charlie Kirk is an American tragedy,” said Jeff Gray, Utah County attorney. “Kirk was murdered while engaging in one of our most sacred and cherished American rights.”

Kirk was killed while on his first stop of the American Comeback Tour at Utah Valley University. If found guilty, aggravated murder charges against Robinson make him eligible for the death penalty.

According to prosecutors, Robinson allegedly left a note for his roommate and romantic partner which read, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”

In a series of texts, Robinson also allegedly confessed to his roommate and detailed his plan to kill Kirk. He later texted his roommate to delete the conversation.

Robinson, 22, appeared in court via video call last Tuesday before the judge appointed him a lawyer.

Authorities have not revealed Robinson’s alleged motives for the shooting, but Gray cited texts to his roommate about hatred. “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out.”

Robinson, from Washington, Utah, will face a preliminary hearing on Sept. 29. Following the hearing, Robinson will enter a plea.
