Paint the Town Red draws crowds to Final Friday Art Walk

The Final Friday Art Walk was held at 5 p.m. on 100 W Center Street by the Cedar City Arts Council.

“(Local art) is especially important for Cedar City. It’s a small city, and I think it’s really hard to sell art here, so supporting the local art helps me and anyone else that likes to do this tremendously,” said Duane Brady of Full of Color Mosaics.

The Cedar City Arts Council has been hosting art walks throughout the summer that allow creators and musicians to share their art with the community free of charge.

As local artists set up stands to sell and promote their work for Final Friday Art Walk, they quickly realized they would be competing for passerby’s attention with SUU’s Paint the Town Red event.

Though surprised at first, various artists agreed that the event received more foot traffic than it had in previous months due to the university’s event.

“It helps to get stuff out there without needing to pay a lot of money for a booth at the farmers market,” said artist Andy Phillips.

Brady shared that although the excess of students was unexpected, he enjoyed the crowds brought to his stand.

For those interested in sharing their creative outlets or appreciating local art, the last Final Friday Art Walk will be on Sept. 26 from 5 to 8 p.m. and is free for all to attend.
