Casino Night presents A Night in New York City

Southern Utah University’s annual Casino Night was held this Saturday in the Sharwan Smith Student Center, inviting students and non-students alike to dress up and enjoy an evening of games, socializing and raffle-drawings. Hosted by the Student Programming Board, this year’s theme was “A Night in New York City.”

Attendees were given a wristband upon entry with five different tabs. Three of the tabs paid their way into their choice of games and the other two could be used to purchase refreshments.

The Ballroom had gambling tables for those who wanted to play blackjack, while other rooms in the Student Center were dedicated to a variety of games from poker to craps, and even chess. All dealers were SPB volunteers.

Students earned raffle tickets according to their winnings

“I’m enjoying all of the dealers. They are all very, very nice,” said SUU student Caylee Frost, who attended Casino Night. “It’s very loud, there’s a lot of people, but it’s very fun.”

Though the annual event is always well-attended, this year’s Casino Night brought in larger crowds than previous years.

“Our attendance has skyrocketed since last year,” Alexis Garcia, SPB event programming board, said. “We have some different activities this year. So, we brought an oxygen bar, we brought a different kind of photo booth … we brought a comedy show.”

At the end of the night a raffle was drawn for a play station, an electric scooter and more.

Each year the event grows and changes depending on the theme and student input. Any suggestions can be sent to MySUU voice, and students can visit the Student Involvement and Leadership office, ST 177, to get involved in events like these next school year.
