Finishing up the 2025 regular season, the Southern Utah University women’s gymnastics team faced off against Boise State University on Friday, Mar. 14, in Boise, Idaho. SUU fell short 196.775-196.125, concluding the regular season.
With the loss, Southern Utah falls to 12-5 in the regular season. Boise State improves to 13-5-1 on the year and 1-1 against SUU.
Bars
Southern Utah started strong on bars. Brinlee Christensen dominated the rotation, landing a 9.900, helping SUU score a 49.175.
Boise State came out on top though, scoring a 49.350. Emily Lopez led the meet with a 9.925.
Vault
The Flippin’ Birds responded on vault, finishing with a 49.150. Ellie Cacciola and Mackenzie Kelly led SUU with a 9.850.
The Broncos struggled, landing a 48.900 and falling behind in the meet.
Floor
Seeking to extend their early lead, SUU’s Christensen landed another 9.900. Niya Randolph and Cacciola followed, each scoring a 9.875.
Despite SUU’s strong performance, Boise State matched with a 49.400. Julia Melchert led all gymnasts with a 9.925 on the floor.
Beam
With the meet coming down to the wire, SUU struggled on beam. Two late falls cost SUU the meet, scoring only a 48.475.
Boise State was solid on beam, finishing with a 49.125, taking the meet 196.775-196.125.
Despite the loss, Christenen finished first in the all-around with a 39.450.
What’s next?
SUU will compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Conference Championship on Saturday, Mar. 22. The Flippin’ Birds will compete against the University of California, Davis, Sacramento State University and the University of Alaska Anchorage.
