Fan Fest sparks school spirit

To kick off Red Week, Southern Utah University fans came to the Sharwan Smith Student Center Ballroom to party at Fan Fest on Feb. 10. The event featured bounce houses, face painting, sign-making, giveaways and more.

During Red Week, the university is dedicated to showing support and school pride as the Thunderbirds play home games and defend their territory.

“We wanted to build something special before games where all these people could come together, share a meal and celebrate what it means to be part of T-Bird Nation. Game day is more than a competition; it’s about creating memories and strengthening our T-Bird ties,” said Alumni Relations Marketing and Event Manager Paige Crossley.

These events aren’t exclusive to students. Many families from the community joined in the festivities by getting pictures with Thor and making posters to show off at the gymnastics meet that followed. SUU swag was also given away during various raffles just in time for everyone to sport their school pride.

Free food, games and prizes for everyone!

“Whether you’re an alumnus bringing your family back to campus, a community member bringing your kids for their first T-Bird experience, or a student making new friends, we want you to feel that special sense that sets SUU apart,” said Crossley. “These events are all about the connections we build and the traditions we share.”

Event coordinators encouraged those who attended Fan Fest to to come out to more events and bring their punch card with them. By attending four or more events, T-Birds will be entered into a drawing for big prizes.

Winners will be announced at the men’s basketball game on Feb. 15 and must be in attendance to claim their prize.

Those who missed Fan Fest can check out the rest of Red Week’s events, which include Speed Friending, Jerseys and Jimmy Johns and Cupcakes and Karaoke, in addition to all the home games going on. To see the full list of events, visit SUU’s student life Instagram page.
