Despite a career high six blocks from Brock Felder, Southern Utah University men’s basketball team fell to Seattle University 75-52 on Saturday, Jan. 18. With the loss, Southern Utah falls to 9-9 on the season and 1-3 in the Western Athletic Conference while Seattle improves to 8-10 and 3-1 in WAC play.
First half
It was back-and-forth between both teams through the first five minutes of play with Seattle holding an 11-9 lead. Over the next seven minutes it was all Redhawks. Seattle went on a 23-5 run, forcing four turnovers during that run.
John Christofilis scored five points in the remaining five minutes of the first half to continue the strong half for Seattle. Despite Jamir Simpson’s six first half points, Seattle led 47-22 at half.
Second half
SUU scored a pair of threes from Simpson and Tavi Jackson but couldn’t gain any momentum on defense. Seattle continued to score freely and consistently held a 20-point lead.
Although Felder recorded a career-high six blocks and Simpson scored 15 points, Seattle U controlled both sides of the ball and secured their third conference win on the year with the 75-52 win over SUU.
