Utah’s New Attorney General to focus on 4 initiatives

Utah’s Attorney General Derek Brown wants to restore public faith in the position. Brown will focus on four initiatives with his newly appointed cabinet members.

The initiatives include consumer protection, public safety, protecting kids online and fighting federal overreach. These represent common ideas in lawsuits the attorney general has inherited. Brown has not yet specified which cases he will continue to pursue.

One lawsuit is for the indefinite possession of Utah’s land. Brown wants to allocate his resources to defend Utah’s land from federal overreach.

Utah is questioning the federal government’s ability to retain land not designated for specific purposes without a time limit,” said Brown.

Although the Supreme Court said on Monday they will not review the case, Attorney General Brown and Gov. Spencer Cox will seek out other federal courts.

Another lawsuit suing TikTok and Meta for the exploitation of children and violation of consumer protections, has gained national attention. Brown and 13 attorneys general claim TikTok was aware, but ignored the issue in order to maintain revenue.

In a position plagued with past controversies, Brown has made an emphasis on political transparency. Attorney General Brown plans to make changes to the position to restore the public’s faith. One change is to publish his weekly schedule. These changes will be implemented through 2025.
