SUU comedy club holds semesterly auditions

To kick off the new semester, Southern Utah University’s student comedy club, Thin Line Comedy, held their spring auditions. Hopeful improvisers joined current members of the club in rounds of improv games, allowing Thin Line’s presidents to determine whether each auditioner was the right fit for the group.

Some of the improv games played involved current members alongside the newcomers, and some were more focused on the hopefuls.

“We try to keep them very simple. It’s mostly just to gauge where you are in your improv process and whether we think you’re ready or not for joining the team,” said co-president Cameron Rey, who has been involved with Thin Line Comedy for two years.

When observing the games, Thin Line’s presidents look for versatility and teamwork in participants.

“We like to see how you lift up your other teammates, because improv is very much a community bonding thing,” said Rey. “Improv is very close to theater, and everybody wants to be the star, but in improv, everyone’s a star.”

Though Thin Line holds auditions to ensure everyone on the team is on the right track and will work well together, they still consider themselves open-door, and invite other interested students to stop by a practice or performance.

“Even if you did improv in high school, or you just have been interested in it, come sit in and watch it, see how we do things. We’re very fun,” said Rey.

Thin Line Comedy holds meetings every Wednesday at 6 p.m., with performances taking place at 7:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month. To learn more, follow them on Instagram.
