Playing their fourth-straight game on the road, the Southern Utah University women’s basketball team traveled to take on the University of Colorado Boulder on Saturday, Dec. 7. Southern Utah kept things close early, but Colorado prevailed, winning 76-59.
With the loss, Southern Utah has lost four-straight and is 1-9 on the season. Colorado improves to 8-2.
First quarter
It was a close matchup in the first quarter, with Colorado leading the entire way but Southern Utah keeping it close. Sierra Chambers and Jaeden Brown each added four points in the quarter to help the Thunderbirds stay in it, but the Buffaloes were up 22-18 after one.
Second quarter
Lior Garzon and the Buffaloes came out firing. Garzon outscored the entire Southern Utah team in the second quarter, scoring 14 points to SUU’s 13 and helped Colorado stretch the lead. The Buffaloes shot 5/9 from three in the quarter and at halftime led 47-31.
Third quarter
Defense was the name of the game coming out of halftime. At the halfway point in the quarter, both teams combined for nine turnovers and only four field goals made. Freshman Olivia Malafu led SUU with four points in the quarter, but the Thunderbirds trailed 59-41.
Fourth quarter
Southern Utah shot the ball really well in the fourth going 7/13 from the field and 2/4 from three. SUU battled and fought to stay in it, but Colorado came out on top 76-59.

Southern Utah will host Sam Houston State University on Monday, Dec. 16, at 6:30 p.m. This game can be watched in the America First Event Center or streamed live on ESPN+.
